Online dictation with artificial intelligence

Dictating and learning to dictate

"Online Dictation," runs online under the Chrome browser.

Taking advantage of the power of Google, this A.I. learns very quickly. In a few sentences it recognizes your language, your accent, your intonations, your expressions. It will even select your main language. (at the bottom of the site page or in the application settings if you install the app).

The commands "New paragraph", "Question mark", "Exclamation mark", "Period" work very well. However, we would appreciate more text control commands like "Delete previous word", "Line break", etc.

Compared to 2015, this AI has made remarkable progress. For example, it no longer goes off the rails when a word from another language is pronounced, it writes it correctly despite our accent. We can go from a sentence in French with a few words of English to another in Spanish without it making any mistakes.

Of course it makes mistakes, especially with homophones when the context is not well defined or when they are local expressions. For example, she happily resists the word "pantoute" (which means "not at all" in Quebec). No way to make it write correctly.

Educational uses

Because it writes with good grammar (agreements, conjugations), it can help improve the written language.

It can also be used as a tool to improve diction by having the machine read a text that it must faithfully reproduce.

It can also help in learning another language: there are more than 40 of them, some declined in several variants.

Finally, it can help to become familiar with these kinds of sound interfaces. Voice control will become more and more common, especially at the home level.

Although its interface is bare bones and English only (four buttons), "Online dictation" is worth a try.
