Morse code is the Latin or Greek of telecommunications.
Considered an archaism by most, it's still used by amateur radio operators, in the navy and in aviation. All you have to do is synthesize a short-wave receiver. You'll suspect, however, that many transmissions are made by Morse code translation software.
Even if digital radio will give it another go, Morse code is still taught systematically in the USA, since knowledge of it is essential to obtain a radio operator's certificate. The standard is five words per minute.
As with Latin or Greek in secondary education, this standard reflects more the weight of tradition than any real desire to use it. In short, it still holds its own, as does Latin in churches, botany and medicine.
When it comes to measuring your ability to learn automatisms, Morse code is an ideal tool.

There are several Morse code learning programs, including CW_Player. The Koch and Farnsworth methods are the most common.
As for apps, we tried Morse Mania and Morse It (MacOS) and Morse Code on Google Play. It's quite amusing to see how quickly you can learn this alphabet with these tools. We haven't even got as far as interpreting the words, but when it comes to mastering the alphabet, we amaze ourselves.
Under Windows, Code Morse seems just as effective, but with a different approach.
Finally, under " Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabets" you'll find Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo... and their variants for different countries. They're easier to learn and very useful when the line is bad. These are "redundancy enhancers"; in computer language, we'd call them robust transmission protocols.
