"Step by step: starting to learn French
A computer application for beginners in FLE (French as a Foreign Language)
French is a beautiful and rich language. As we all know, there's nothing easy about this language, and it takes time to grasp all its subtleties. This can be a major obstacle for those who want to learn the language by choice or obligation. How do you begin to understand French?
A computer application for Windows, MacOs and Linux has been created by CAVILAM - Alliance Française (Centre d'Approches Vivantes des Langues et des Médias) expressly for taking those first steps. The aptly named "Pas à pas" software is an excellent tool for both self-taught learners and French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses.
It is divided into almost a dozen sections, all of which work in the same way: a situation is shown by drawing, the user listens, can read the sentence and either choose the answer that reproduces it or responds immediately to it. For example, a hotel valet wishes a "Good evening, sir", and the learner must choose the drawing corresponding to the sentence.
From the outset, "Pas à pas" focuses on common everyday topics to prepare future speakers for common French.
The following situations are covered
Greetings
Asking for directions
Ordering in a restaurant
Shopping
Using public transport
In addition to these different situations, the application features a virtual glossary where images represent objects, places, professions, numbers, colors and other elements. The user can then listen to the pronunciation and read the word.
The Englishes MOOC course was developed by an artist and is designed for anyone interested in the (English) language. It explores the history of English, its pronunciation, and its relationship to the art world.
Many serious games address the topic of sustainable development. Yet before such solutions were proposed, innovative people had to go against the social grain and fight to improve their environment. A humorous adventure game, hosted by the National Film Board, teaches children the attitudes they need to adopt to make a difference.
A veritable showcase for public health, Koam was developed by Nutrikeo, a consulting firm specializing in nutritional strategies. Supported by BPI France, the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and Europe, Koam is the result of two years' work by a team of leading specialists in nutrition, childhood, pedagogy, sociology, digital and behavioral theory.
