Airline pilot training is highly selective. The aim is to facilitate access for those who have the potential but not the financial means, ENAC offers an integrated preparation program to become an airline pilot.
Entry requirements
Applications are submitted on the basis of a portfolio.
To be eligible for selection for the ATPL preparatory cycle, candidates must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be, in the year of selection: in their final year of high school or immediately after the baccalauréat, in the first year of a university institute of technology, a higher technician section, a university bachelor's degree, in a scientific refresher course (such as C.P.E.S.), or in a post-baccalaureate vocational training course in aeronautics, and be effectively enrolled.
- Be over 16 and under 21 years of age on January 1 of the year of selection.
- At the closing date for applications, meet the criteria defined for the award of a higher education grant.
- Hold the Brevet d'Initiation Aéronautique (BIA) or another aeronautical qualification, as of January 1 of the year of selection, or be recommended by a club affiliated to an aeronautical federation, or directly by an aeronautical federation, of which the candidate has been a member for at least 9 months as of January 1 of the year of the competition.
- Be a national of a European Union country, or of another state party to the European Economic Area agreement.
As there are several stages in the selection process, it's best to make sure you're up to the task. If a candidate is at ease with maths and basic physics, can cope with stress, is comfortable working in a team, has some command of spoken English and is in good health, then his or her chances are good.
