Laura Silva, professor in the Department of Political Science at Université Laval, dreams of a museum of philosophy.
To give an idea of the form it might take, she has organized "A Night at the Museum of Philosophy", an ephemeral museum with workshops, games and lectures, all in a friendly, lively atmosphere.
"The last thing I want is an exhibition that presents the life and work of Aristotle, Descartes or Kant on panels. We need to integrate philosophy with current issues that touch people closely, and explore philosophical concepts in a fun way through art, play and experimentation."
In addition to artists' works illustrating different philosophical concepts, workshops and lectures, role-playing on philosophical problems was offered, as well as games prompting discussion of contemporary issues, such as medical aid in dying, or more ancient ones, such as the elements of virtuous conduct.
"Besides, philosophy absolutely must get out of the academic bubble and it must use emotions, notably through art and games, to get people to think, debate and act better."
The event was a great success, so much so that we like to imagine such a place of animation and debate, where we could go to discuss and find solutions to our small and big problems, both personal and collective.
