Science fiction and artificial intelligence: a metaphor for our world

For science fiction writers, A.I. is often a reflection of who we are.

Artificial intelligence has long been associated with the science fiction genre. Whether in novels, films or TV series, the idea of an intelligence that equals, or even rivals, humans has always aroused fascination. But that would be forgetting that this narrative handle has often been the vehicle for a metaphor about our human predicament.

In this TED talk, research director Marc Attalah discusses how this beloved science-fiction theme reveals fundamental questions. It has generated debate and reflection. And if the authors don't know what the future will be like, perhaps their writings have painted a picture of our role in this generally dehumanizing future. What if, deep down, we are the A.I. of the future?
