Oldest intact shipwreck found

An ancient vessel preserved in the depths of the Black Sea

Archaeologists are used to finding fragments of artifacts. They often piece together objects from ancient civilizations like a jigsaw puzzle. So the discovery of a complete vehicle is a wonderful surprise for them. This happened at the end of 2018 when a wreck dating back to antiquity was found almost intact in the Black Sea.

An exceptional find since it was a 2400-year-old Greek merchant ship. Given its depth and low oxygen levels, it has been preserved all this time. The discovery was all the more unexpected as the scientists weren't looking for shipwrecks at all, but were studying the water level in the sea.
