Mendeley is a research reference management tool combined with a social network. The result is a flexible service that helps you organize your own research and references, monitor the research in your field, help you disseminate your own and expand your network of regular and occasional collaborators.
The number of practical applications is impressive, starting with metadata extraction, full-text search, bibliography production and, above all, the many possible relationships with other tools, communities or functions.

The habit is not necessarily well established among older researchers, but if you want to stay up to date in your practices, it's in your interest to know how to use networks, to build and participate in your own, and to fully understand their uses, advantages and limits.
Last but not least, Mendeley Mobile should quickly become an essential tool for conference-trotters, if only to refer to the research of others or to present one's own research at visiting meetings.
