Koam, playing with balanced nutrition

In the Nutriland kingdom, find out what makes a balanced diet tick.

Koam's adventures

Malkroz, a great sorcerer, has rebelled against the kingdom of Nutriland, where he has bewitched the king and spread an unbalanced diet to all the inhabitants, who are no longer in shape. Koam, the sorcerer's apprentice, will have to confront him and fight the monsters in his service to restore everyone's healthy habits.

Your behavior as a guide

Here's the synopsis of The Adventures of Koam, a Serious Game integrated into a platform called Koam, pronounced "Quoi M" and meaning "What to eat", a homophone that's quite telling when it comes to understanding its objectives.

In this serious game, web users take on the role of Koam as they search for the elements that will enable them to re-establish a balanced diet. He or she collects cards and learns about the different food groups. The aim of this serious game is to introduce players to the basics of food, with a view to achieving a more balanced diet.

Presented in the form of quests to be completed, Les Aventures de Koam allows players to be immersed while learning and having fun.

We know it's important to eat a balanced diet, but do we really know the rules? Koam aims to enlighten us with fun and educational tests, while suggesting tips for everyday life.

An innovative project, it's the first platform of its kind to combine food education and fun for all.

A genuine showcase for public health, Koam was developed by Nutrikeo, a nutritional strategy consultancy. Supported by BPI France, the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and Europe, Koam is the result of two years' work by a team of leading specialists in nutrition, childhood, pedagogy, sociology, digital and behavioral theory.

Managing food at one's own pace, according to one's own needs and while having fun are the key drivers. Eating well can become a natural reflex and part of daily habits, which is why they wanted to develop a tool for pleasure and certainly not a constraint that will be consulted very little.

Many children can't recognize certain vegetables!

Mini-games

Accessible free of charge on computer, tablet and smartphone, the platform contains several sections, including four little games for children, always related to learning about balanced eating:

Koamchef puts users in the shoes of a restaurant owner, who has to serve them balanced dishes according to their tastes.

Koamquiz is, as its name suggests, a quiz to test your knowledge, and even if you don't know how to answer, the "Nutrithèque" is at your disposal, with explanatory theme sheets on the basics of nutrition.

Koamarket invites you to do your shopping according to a list and in a limited time. The aim is to help you recognize which aisle to find the product in.

Picnikoam helps you recognize food families, so you can put them in the right baskets: fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, beverages, etc.

A coach application

In addition to the Serious Game and mini-games, there's also a Koamcoach application for older children, which acts as a coach. Its aim is to accompany you on a daily basis, without playing on your guilt, but rather to help you eat healthily by giving advice based on food families and regulated rules.

The more balanced you eat, the more points and rewards you'll earn, which can be accumulated in a kitty and converted into gifts via the app.

Gamification

There's also a "tribe" section, where you can bring your family and friends together to earn more points, but also, and above all, to encourage each other.

And, soon available, the KoamCoach mobile application for older children, a real coach for daily nutritional balance. Every day, it offers a complete follow-up of your balanced diet and sound advice on how to make progress, thanks to a unique algorithm and an original approach. It is based on the nutritional targets set by the PNNS guidelines and the ANSES targets for physical activity.
