Escape Room in the world of Arsène Lupin

Arsène Lupin is a French fictional character created by Maurice Leblanc in 1874. A gentleman burglar, he is known for his talent for disguising himself and assuming different identities to commit theft and solve criminal puzzles. With the growing success of the character with readers in a magazine in 1905, his adventures appeared in 18 novels until the author's death in 1941. Originally, his many adventures were set in France during the Belle Époque and the Roaring Twenties.

The adventures of Arsène Lupin were adapted to the theater and then to the cinema and television, but also in comics and manga and thus crossed all continents. In 2021, Lupin, starring Omar Sy, is a series broadcast on Netflix that is inspired by the universe and character of Arsene Lupin and brings the character back to life around the world.

The Lupin universe lends itself particularly well to Escape Rooms with puzzle solving. In fact, this is the theme of Escape Kit in 2021. On Thot Cursus, we had already presented you their concept that makes it easy to organize an Escape Room at home or at school. In the article we introduced you to the Escape Room "The sleeping curse" inspired by the world of Harry Potter aimed at 6-10 year olds with easy puzzles corresponding to this age group.

This time, we're taking it up a notch in puzzle solving with Arsène's Masterpiece as it's aimed at teens (14 and up) and adults. It can be played from 2 to 6 players (by putting more than one in a team).

In the game, you are part of the Police Brigade and you have received a letter from Arsène Lupin. He claims to be in possession of an original painting, the most wanted painting in the world and missing for years. You have one hour to find the place where the painting is hidden by following the trail game orchestrated by Lupin. If you manage to solve the riddles, you will find the place where he has hidden the painting. If not, it will disappear with...

Here is our feedback and what we particularly liked about this game:

• The ease of preparing and setting up the game, even if you have never organized an Escape Room in your life. You just have to follow the different steps of the installation guide, print and assemble the different elements of the puzzles and hide some elements in specific places indicated in the guide.
  
  
• An immersion in the period of Paris and the Belle Époque, even more so if you transform the environment of your living room with some elements of decor and the master of the game and the players with disguises. Ideas for creating and customizing around the game are moreover proposed by Escape Kit.
  
  
• The ideal is to have a team of 3 or 4 players. The game master can be part of the team to solve the puzzles but we do not necessarily advise it. It's better if he knows the riddles to direct the players and help them manage their time, suggest them to save a riddle for later when they have more elements to solve it or to take at a time clues (with a time penalty) if the players really block too much.
  
  
• The riddles are inventive and varied. Some puzzles are easy, others are more difficult to solve because they require a little more thought. That's why the minimum age of 14 is important, unless you make a mixed child-adult team.
  
  
• The game time is neither too short nor too long, you have an hour to find the board, with a countdown where the background music rhythm changes according to the time left.
  
  
• We printed the game in black and white on a laser printer but it wasn't awkward for this game.
  
  

This Escape Room "Arsène's Masterpiece" is a good idea of activities to set up for teenagers during the vacations with family, friends or even in a vacation center, especially if you don't have much preparation time. It will make you have a good fun convivial moment and will contribute to create a team spirit.
