The links between teachers, students and parents are essential to the school process. For everything to run smoothly, everyone needs to be able to communicate easily. Asynchronous communication approaches have the advantage of reaching everyone when they can and keeping the conversation going. This served us well during the covid-19 pandemic.
Since then, the Quebec government, and many others, have become aware of the shortcomings in the protection of personal data. Legislation was passed requiring public and private companies, large and small, to comply with various data security criteria.
As a result, several software applications used by the education system to communicate were no longer compliant and had to be abandoned. This was a major setback for parents and teachers who had found an effective way of staying in touch. So Classavatar has come up with a solution that respects the law's criteria, while being easy to access for all those involved in education.
Teachers create an account where they can manage their class (or various groups). They then invite their students to join the application, as well as their parents if they have their e-mail address. He can then communicate with them about class rules, important events and share them with parents. A messaging system is available for direct communication between individuals. And above all, everyone can create their own avatar.
This is the most important aspect of the application. It's possible to design a wide variety of different avatars, with many nods to popular culture, be it superheroes, Pokémon, the Simpsons and so on. What's more, teachers can reward good behavior in class by awarding points to students, who can then unlock items for their avatar.
The application is still in beta version, and the developers are working on various future features. They would like to offer a portfolio section for tracking achievements throughout the year, implement voicemail and create a mobile version. The application is currently free for all players. There will eventually be a paid pro account for parents, which will give a few more advantages. The software will remain free for teachers and students.
