Many training methods promise us tricks and devices for effortless learning. But what kind of effort are we talking about? There are big differences between the effort of a sportsman or woman, a player trying to reach a new level on his or her application, or a student learning vocabulary lists!

If Taylorism saw workers as cogs, other visions have humanized them. Some have even reflected on the notion that workplaces should foster happiness in employees. A good idea at first, but it can quickly go awry when it becomes a guilt trip for any negative emotion experienced by an individual.

All too often, in the educational context, out of a desire to preserve the unity of the group, some learners find themselves accepting situations that don't suit them. The same applies to teachers, who accept requests that have nothing to do with their role, so as not to undermine their relationship with the administration. And yet, knowing how to say "no", although not easy, is often necessary to maintain one's equilibrium.
