Today the avocado is everywhere. We eat it in trendy restaurants, we recommend it because it's good for our health. And it's so good that it's even used in beauty products. The bottom line: in recent years, avocado consumption has exploded. Global imports of the green fruit have tripled since 2003.
And France has something to do with it. French household purchases of avocados rose 8% in 2016. But this explosion in avocado consumption is not all good news for Mexico's economy. Massive deforestation, the lure of cartels, the success of the avocado also has a dark side. Explanations.
