A complete, free application for composing or transcribing a score
Scores are essential in music. They include not only the notes, but also the playing directions, rests, rhythm, and so on. As a result, even the most experienced musicians continue to rely on sheet music to interpret a piece.
However, composing or retranscribing a score is no easy task when you've had no formal training. And digital tools aren't much help: there are so many symbols and elements to transcribe, and so few applications that can do it easily. And those that do are generally very expensive. However, over the last few years, a free, multilingual, open-source, easy-to-use program has appeared on the Web. This dream software is called MuseScore.
Available on Windows, MAC OS, Linux and for mobile OS (iPhone and Android), the application is equally suited to budding and more experienced musicians. Manipulations can be carried out using the computer keyboard or a compatible MIDI keyboard. When the software opens, the palette of options on the left of the screen is immense.
It contains everything you need for notation: clefs, possessions, arpeggios, accidentals, tremolos, etc. There is no limit to the length of scores. The application also manages repeats and codas, among other things, so you don't waste time on repetitive tasks.
What's more, MuseScore includes a sound bank that allows the software to interpret the score, enabling the composer to check for any mistakes.
For beginners or those not necessarily at ease with computer manipulations, the site offers, in addition to the online manual (also available in PDF), eleven short video tutorials available on YouTube. These can be found directly on the software download page and, of course, on YouTube. And for those looking for a tutorial in French, there's this twenty-minute video by a French musician and blogger who offers an overview of the software:
Like many open-source products, the software has a strong base of users who have designed plug-ins to add functionality. A way for users to enhance the experience of the already comprehensive application. Sharing isn't just about plug-ins.
MuseScore also includes another site, on which you'll find a large bank of scores that can be downloaded free of charge in mp3 or in MuseScore format (allowing them to be modified within the application). Tens of thousands of compositions are available on the site, and this is constantly increasing thanks to the subscribers who add up daily.
It took them a few hours in transit to get to the training room. Some got up early. Cup of coffee in hand, they don't know each other yet. Their eyes barely meet. How do you quickly unfreeze all these participants so that they form a group?
Many students from all over the world go abroad in order to have access to better programs. However, the African continent sees a huge part of its youth leaving and never coming back. This exodus of skills is hurting sectors such as medicine and digital technologies.
Generative AIs are invading the web, and content is being generated by AIs more and more frequently. They can create text, images, videos and even code. Choose the right tool for the job, and give clear instructions for quality results.
Our online photos reveal much more than we think. If an A.I. can describe the mood and pretext of a single photo, you can imagine what it can gather about our account from all our photos, compiled over the years. A university or company using A.I. can already draw a portrait of a candidate with great precision. Give it a try!
