Once upon a time... DNA

From Mendelian genetics to molecular cloning.

"Once upon a time... DNA" is a website on the basics of classical and molecular genetics. It is organized around 41 key concepts explained through animations, interviews, biographies, problems and links.

These concepts form a historical framework from Mendelian genetics to molecular cloning. However, each concept can be studied independently, depending on the reader's interest. One of the special features of this site is the historical presentation of the series of experiments that gave rise to these concepts.

Through the animations, the reader will observe the incessant to-ing and fro-ing between hypotheses and experimental results, a process which is the basis of scientific research. Biographies, illustrated by albums, describe the background and historical context of the scientists associated with each concept.

In the "Probleme" section, the mascot "Eugène LeGène" invites visitors to test their knowledge by answering a series of multiple-choice questions.

Il était une fois ... l'ADN is the French version of DNA From The Beginning, designed and developed by the Dolan DNA Learning Center. It has been translated by the University of Geneva.
