The ecological footprint of clothing

Is it possible to dress without polluting?

Hanging garments

When we think of polluting industries, we think of fossil fuels, chemicals and transport. But there's another industry that should be added to the list of those most harmful to the planet: textiles. Indeed, clothing production is highly polluting. A problem when added to the phenomenon of "fast fashion", where people are constantly throwing away and buying new clothes,

As this report from Le Monde shows, cotton cultivation alone requires enormous amounts of pesticides and water. What's more, in the developing countries from which the majority of our clothes come, the use of polluting products is little or unregulated. Add to this transportation and washing, which leaves behind unfilterable microfibers that end up in the oceans. Of course, it is possible to recycle, but too few people do.
