Digital art by hand

Creating cubism with phones

There is a perception that digital art is necessarily slick and glossy as the high-definition, even 4K, format democratizes around the world. Yet, real artists know that it is entirely possible to go beyond that and play with digital codes. Nic Koller has understood this by succeeding in making cubism that can be admired in virtual reality.

Using his brush, in this case a phone, he designs collages that come close to cubism. Thus, mundane scenes like a couple talking in their apartment or a man skateboarding become extraordinary when viewed with the virtual reality headset.

Other artists also use "puppets" made by hand and then digitized in a virtual world to create real emotions in the viewer.
