The rush to space

Are we stealing space?

Space is a common good. This sounds strange, but it should be remembered that as early as the 1960s, the United Nations had looked into the subject and decreed that the resources eventually found in the cosmos should be for the good of all and belong to no one. The problem is that it is difficult to regulate this environment.

At this point, we are not yet into the technology that can exploit an asteroid. However, international law has great vagueness about the possibilities of mining resources elsewhere, among other things. Especially since with the "new space" technologies that have been created by multi-billionaires like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, it becomes cheaper to explore space.

Not to mention that not all countries are starting out on the same footing on this "space rush." The United States and China are well placed but Europe and other continents are dragging their feet. Like the conquest of the West, it seems unfortunately that we are seeing the same phenomenon reproduced: the first to arrive will be the first to be served. Law and order will come later, alas.
