The slow evolution of mentalities finally materialized in 2005 with the creation of theEDS Institute (Environment, Development and Society).
Since then, the pace has quickened, and today the entire institution is mobilized around a coherent environmental approach that encompasses the operations of all departments, teaching, research, investments and virtually all activities, from transport to leisure, food, accommodation, culture, living environment and social involvement.
Université Laval's Sustainable Development Strategy - Horizon 2030 (.pdf) is based on sustainable development objectives and a participatory, inclusive approach, all monitored by internal and external follow-up tools.
In short, the document reflects a serious commitment and effectively testifies to the depth of Université Laval's sustainable development culture. It can serve as an example of large-scale institutional mobilization.
Not only does the expertise developed make Université Laval a credible partner in all environmental projects, earning it research and consulting contracts, but environmental concerns are also on the rise in all fields, making this a promising area of development and future for the university.
The icing on the cake is that the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact 2025 ranking places Université Laval 52nd out of more than 2,300 institutions in terms of Unesco's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and even 7th in terms of climate action!
