It's not enough to be aware of each pupil's strengths and particularities, you have to be able to remember them, not get mixed up, go beyond impressions and end up with an overall view of your class.
Valentin Rebeix, principal of a school in Marseille, was well aware of the power of observation, but he was soon confronted with the fact that he couldn't be as attentive to each and every one of his pupils and help them as much as he would have liked. So, with a team of teachers and education enthusiasts, he created the online service "Le p'tit observatoire".
This service enables teachers to record their observations on each of their students as they happen, from any connected device, and to centralize them. This then enables them to find them easily, share them with the teaching team, keep a history of them, prepare report cards and assessments, have good elements on which to base parent meetings, and even improve their own teaching practices.
An interesting point is that at least 50% of teachers' observations are made on students' strengths, on the elements on which we can build and develop students' abilities. It's so much easier to improve strengths than to try to correct faults or hinder bad habits.
The art of making good observations is developing. Le p "tit observatoire also offers an observation methodology that helps to reduce judgments and stick to what is observed.
Registration is free, and the service is available in French and English.
