Higher education is a competitive market. In this context, the idea is to attract as many students as possible in order to improve our pool of researchers, gain credibility and so on. As a result, we need to find ways of attracting young people to fields such as engineering. Needs are great in all spheres of engineering, and it's not surprising that engineering schools are trying to get a good core of quality students.
École Polytechnique de Montréal is no exception, and in 2024 decided to create a series of online conferences to give an overview of what the school has to offer future students. These are four live presentations, put together end-to-end, that tackle different topics.
The first deals with the question of engineer training. It explains the role of the engineer, the various spheres of engineering and career prospects.
The second is aimed at international students wishing to apply to the school, with details of the admission procedure, requirements, etc.
The third looks at post-baccalaureate degrees: why look into them, what's in it for you, how they work at Polytechnique, etc.
Finally, the last section looks at shorter courses, the various certificates offered by the school and the bachelor's degree by accumulation in cybersecurity, an important subject if ever there was one these days.
Throughout the presentations, the speakers respond to questions posed in the chat room at the time of the broadcast, and video excerpts provide a glimpse of the campus, explain certain programs and more.
A somewhat static initiative, but one that has the advantage of answering the many questions that young people seeking guidance or foreign students looking to train at one of North America's most renowned engineering schools may have.
Voluntary simplicity is a fashionable lifestyle that leads to consuming less and better, while respecting one's needs and future generations. In this analysis, I share real-life examples and practical applications of this philosophy of life similar to minimalism, but which opposes the disturbing consumerist culture and its harmful effects on the environment, happiness and the future.
The city is a space co-constructed by people to exchange, communicate and trade. The City and Man form a complex ecosystem in which Man shapes the City and the City shapes Man. The understanding of this system is essential to envisage the future of our urbanized societies. Let's discover how to visualize this complex to better understand it with Thibault Pierre Louis Romany.
A.I., in its very conception, is based on a vision of the world that can be apprehended in place of ideology. So, to what extent does it carry an ideology?
Sometimes, sportsmen and women can completely lose their composure at the start of an event, when they've been putting in a string of good performances in training. These under-performances are often explained by "mental factors", but that's a bit short-sighted. Athletes and researchers have attempted to propose more refined and differentiated hypotheses. Useful analyses for anyone who needs to be at the forefront of an engaging or stressful action.
Gamification is one of the trendy tools for engaging students or workers. While it sounds simple in theory, practice often reminds us that there are several keys to making a gamification approach work. A few years ago, a researcher came up with an octagon-shaped analysis grid. Use it without restraint.
