Creating organizational agility for learning
Agility, in the context of organizational learning and development, refers to the ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing and evolving needs. It implies flexibility, responsiveness and a proactive approach to meeting challenges and seizing opportunities for growth.
In education and training, taking account of learner agility transforms the way lessons are designed, delivered and assessed, and emphasizes continuous learning, experimentation and iteration (improvement cycles).
The benefits of agility in learning
First and foremost, it enables learning programs to adapt rapidly to new technologies, methodologies and the changing needs of learners, ensuring greater relevance and effectiveness. Here we can draw inspiration from Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, co-creators of Scrum, an agile methodology for software development, which has also been applied in the learning context to promote a team-centered, iterative approach. It's clever to think in terms of devices that are flexible and evolve in line with group dynamics.
Secondly, agility responds to learners' individual needs for personalization. Principles such as MVP (Minimum Viable Product) with its rapid feedback loops are applicable to agile learning to rapidly test and improve educational initiatives. One program sequence works, amplify it; another gives poor results, abandon it. No planned drama, just a trial-and-error principle applied to instructional design.
The active involvement of learners in the design process increases their commitment and motivation. Carol Dweck's work on the "growth mindset", while not speaking directly of agility, complements agile principles by encouraging an approach to learning based on the continuous development of experience and openness to change. The more the learner cultivates his or her curiosity and eagerness to deploy, the more he or she will find the means to learn on his or her own.
The emphasis on regular feedback and iteration enhances learning paths and content. The regularity of personal and organizational feedback loops supports the sense of learning. This is how Peter Senge emphasizes organizational learning and systems thinking. The concepts of team learning and the learning organization he develops are fundamental to creating an agile environment that will facilitate learners' initiative,
AA certification: Agile Learner
Recognizing the strategic nature of agility, the APAP network has created a certification that promotes the agility of learners. The "Apprenant Agile" certification, created in 2018, considers the cross-disciplinary skills that are essential for the exercise of a profession, whatever the sector of activity.
The aim of the certification is to assess a learner's ability to adapt, project themselves and deal with change to position themselves professionally and gain efficiency in their professional actions. It recognizes a person's ability to acquire, process, evaluate and integrate new knowledge, and apply it in a variety of private, social and professional contexts. By developing the ability to act, this certification also promotes the success of professional projects, mobility, return to employment or qualifying training.
The certification is based on the "Learning to learn" skill, to develop the ability to adapt and acquire new knowledge. This skill is broken down into competency domains such as :
- Engaging in action and gaining the self-confidence to make proposals.
- Manage resources to contribute to the effective management of a situation.
- Identify and analyze success strategies to optimize organization and efficiency.
- Transpose success strategies to other contexts to enhance learning and professional effectiveness.
This certification covers five cross-functional skills:
- Communicate: Regulate your communication actions to understand others and make yourself understood.
- Cooperate: Coordinate one's actions with those of others to participate in a team's common goal.
- Act methodically: Use strategies to solve problems and manage time effectively.
- Reason logically: Analyze and optimize strategies for success.
- Think critically: step out of your comfort zone and take risks.
In short, agile learners stand out for their willingness to innovate, to perform rapidly in new and changing situations, and to reflect critically on their experiences.
Perspectives and benefits of the agile learner
According to the certification's promoters, adopting an agile learner posture opens the door to a range of considerable benefits for any individual concerned with his or her professional and personal development. At the heart of this approach is the enhancement of employability, an indispensable benefit in an ever-changing job market. Thanks to the certification obtained at the end of the course, each learner attests to his or her ability to define and implement an effective action plan to bring his or her learning projects to fruition.
The importance of knowing "How I learn and adapt" is paramount in a world of rapidly changing professional demands. Self-direction of learning goals is at the heart of Albert Bandura's psycho-sociological theory. This in-depth self-knowledge not only symbolizes the learner's motivation and remobilization in a conscious, voluntary learning process, but also marks his or her resolute commitment to an exploration that starts from the self. Indeed, this agile learning approach recognizes and values this commitment, placing it at the heart of personal and professional progress.
Moreover, developing an agile learning posture enables you to hone your argumentation skills. This skill, essential in both professional and personal life, benefits greatly from the ability to mobilize varied knowledge and experience to effectively support a point of view.
Another significant benefit lies in the development of a sense of personal efficacy. Feeling capable of achieving the goals we set ourselves boosts motivation and feeds a virtuous circle of success and accomplishment.
Finally, fully embracing this approach fosters the development of self-confidence. This heightened self-confidence, born of the recognition of one's own skills and successes, is a fundamental pillar for navigating the modern professional landscape with ease and resilience.
